Join the Dots: Music Reading 101 Workshop
If you've wondered what all the dots and squiggles on the sheets we sometimes use at choir mean, or you'd like a refresher because you haven't read music since school, this workshop is for you!
While we love teaching by ear and have no plans to stop doing that ever, many of you have asked for the low-down on the mysteries of music notation, so we're here to unveil as much of it as we can for you in a way that is most useful in the context of choir.
You’ll come away knowing:
✅ how to figure out which part is yours, how to follow it, and what useful things it tells you
✅ how the music shows you how high or low to sing
✅ useful things to look for on the page and what they mean
✅ how various secret music codes work (like the repeat signs that always confuse the crap out of us and all the various dots and lines you see)
It will be a fun, interactive workshop with your trusty choir leaders and music nerds Jack and Naomi. There will be singing, there is bound to be laughter and there will of course be tea!
Everyone is welcome, whether you come to Alterna regularly or not.
